Acro / Partner Yoga

A fun and exciting class that puts two on a mat!

Move together in a practice that requires deep attention, enhances trust, promotes connection, and brings people together with the fun and joy of yoga. A mix of partner and acro-yoga, this class will help you experience familiar yoga poses in a new way, and learn a few new skills as well. Challenge yourself in a supportive environment with assisted stretches, balances, and inversions that can help you take your own practice to new levels. Your friend can’t make it? Don’t worry! No partner is required, as we switch partners frequently throughout the class.

This class is immediately followed by the weekly PWYC Acro yoga jam.

Aerial Yoga

Inspired by traditional yoga, pilates, dance, and acrobatics, Aerial Yoga is a relatively new form of yoga. Using a fabric hammock or yoga swing to support students, it allows them to deepen stretches and safely connect with postures they may not ordinarily be able to find on the mat.  Aerial Yoga is a challenging and fun way to relieve stress, decompress the spine, and strengthen the entire body. It is an exciting way for anyone looking to introduce fitness into their life or anyone with a curiosity for something different to complement their existing yoga practice.

You’ll also learn about anatomical terms that you might hear in a yoga class, how to modify poses for your unique body, and the use of props to support your practice. All levels of flexibility, strength, and experience are welcome.

With curiosity, we will use the Muse headbands as a tool to play and experiment with meditation (moving and still). No meditation experience necessary. Please bring your phone and headphones so you can track your experience with the app. Muse headbands are provided. Limited to 15 participants.

Meditation

Through the practice of mindfulness and meditation, this class teaches us how to be aware and awake to the present moment. Each class will include a 30 minute, mostly silent sit. We learn to see and accept things as they are, freeing our minds and opening our hearts.

Movement Quotient Practice

These classes will be a deep-dive into task-based movement training. Primarily inspired by the Fighting Monkey Practice, we will explore task-based movement and how its application in personal practice and in teaching is vital for longevity.

Solo and partnered task-based movement situations will be investigated using the Fighting Monkey tools, floorwork/low-flying locomotion and directed improvisation. The physical work will be supported by discussion of the Fighting Monkey approach and how to integrate this work into an existing personal or teaching practice.

One Animal Movement’s Movement Quotient adheres to yogic precepts; is a great complement to a traditional yoga practice and to any physical discipline. All dedicated practitioners and movement instructors, (including but not limited to dancers, athletes, physical performers, yogis and martial artists), are welcome. Pants that cover the knees and shirts that cover the shoulders are recommended.

Please note: These classes are “Pay the Teacher”, $15 per class (members: first class free, $8 per class therafter.)

Moving into Meditation

This class will focus on an embodied, contemplative mode of practicing asana that will support a reflective and meditative mindset. Every class will include at least 20 minutes of meditation. No meditation experience necessary.
