James Fraser

Studying Peace and Conflict, and International Relations led James to work with the medical humanitarian organization Médecins Sans Frontières / Doctors Without Borders (MSF) in some of the most difficult conflicts in the world. After leaving MSF, determined to bring HIV treatment to the most vulnerable populations in low-income countries, James co-founded Dignitas International. Witnessing overwhelming suffering over decades left him with a heavy heart.

James always looked to a physical practice to lift his spirits. Long-distance triathlons, running, and martial arts were dedications, but something was always missing. When his partner, Laura, gifted him a 10-class yoga pass at a local studio, he found what he was looking for and never looked back.

Through a regular practice of yoga and meditation, James has experienced personal miracles: rest was possible; relationships with family and friends could be deeper; stressful work could be managed with more grace; health could be improved (life-long allergies and asthma, and chronic back pain disappeared); and joy could be experienced. But the most surprising miracle continues to unfold: by deepening one’s relationship to self, one inevitably finds a source of strength and clarity to better help others.

James completed a 500-hour Teacher Training, and the Advanced Restorative Yoga Training at Octopus Garden Yoga Centre, and is delighted to have the opportunity to share some of what he has learned for the benefit of others.
