Carol Culhane, EST, is a Shiatsu Therapist with over 10 years of experience in both practising and teaching shiatsu.
Carol’s goal is to partner with clients to achieve an improvement in overall health. This can mean varied things; a lessening of pain in the body, improved sleep, a calmer disposition or the return of a healthy sheen to the eyes. Carol has had much success treating the following conditions using shiatsu: back pain, digestive issues, headaches, insomnia, menstrual difficulties, sprains/strains and injuries, stress, sciatica.
What is Shiatsu?
Shiatsu is a Japanese style of massage that incorporates the knowledge of both anatomy and Traditional Chinese Medicine to understand and improve imbalance in the body. In shiatsu, tight muscles can be released by using deeper pressure while weaker areas can be built up by using holding techniques which tend to be more nurturing. Clients leave the treatment space feeling relaxed, more present in their bodies, and with a reduction in imbalance.
At the initial appointment, a thorough intake is completed including a health history, concerns, and desired outcomes for treatment. During treatments clients rest comfortably on a futon mat on the floor, and pressure is applied to the body using thumbs, palms, forearms and knees. The pressure used is always adjusted to the patient’s level of comfort and desired outcome.
The only firm rules of Carol’s treatments are that any questions should be asked at any time and the level of pressure is always governed by the client.
Please note: Some conditions are more suitably treated with one hour appointments. Please contact Carol if you have any questions.
